About Garage Heat Lab
Garage Heat Lab is a free, independent set of tools for people heating a garage or workshop. It exists because most sizing advice online either hides its math or is there to sell you a particular heater.
What the site does
The garage heater calculator estimates how much heat your garage needs, in BTU/hr and watts, from its size, your winter and its insulation. Companion tools estimate the cost to run a garage heater and the garage heater installation cost, and the guides explain the choices in plain English.
Every page uses the same engine. When a guide says a 24 × 24 garage needs a certain number of BTU, that number comes from the same function the calculator runs, so the site never disagrees with itself.
Where the numbers come from
The formula, insulation factors, rounding rules and enclosure assumptions are all published on the methodology page. Climate estimates come from NOAA hourly weather records for qualified nearby stations. Energy prices are dated U.S. Energy Information Administration averages. Cost figures from other publishers are quoted with their own dates, and only after we have opened the page.
What the site is not
We are not HVAC engineers, and this is not a substitute for a professional heat-loss calculation or a licensed installer. We do not sell heaters, take commissions from manufacturers or rank brands. If the site ever carries advertising or affiliate links, they will be labeled, and they will not change the numbers the calculator produces.
Corrections
If a number looks wrong, or a source contradicts our factors, tell us through the contact page. Include the result link from the calculator so we can see your exact inputs. Corrections are checked against the published sources, and the methodology page is updated when they hold up.
